Living In The Movies…

Hi my name is Charita and I’m a movie addict and this NaBloPoMo challenge prompt is right up my alley. These challenges are great by the way!! I’m getting excited so let’s just jump right in.  The question is “If you had to be trapped inside a movie for 5 days, which movie would you pick?” I would have to say Harlem Nights.

Harlem Nights

Harlem Nights is a cult favorite movie and, personally, one of my favorite movies of all time.  It was released November 17, 1989 and, mind you, I was born in 1984 so I was young when it was released but I absolutely love THIS movie! The cast of Harlem Nights has all of the great actors and comedians of our time….period.  All of these legends include Redd Foxx, Danny Aiello, Della Reese, Jasmine Guy, Robin Harris and Richard Pryor.  It was also written, directed, and starred Eddie Murphy.  I have seen this movie an unimaginable amount of times.

I chose Harlem Nights because of the era it was set in which is the 30s.  The style of dress back then is what really pulls me in.

The way they dressed in the 30s was classy and sexy at the same time and the cars and nightclubs like the Savoy and the Cotton Club was to LIVE for.

Just to live in that era in Harlem had to be extraordinary as far as the arts and the Harlem Renaissance.  I would have loved being in the midst of that era when any form of art was an important part of our culture and artists and poets were storytellers that were famous but could live normal lives without being hassles by anyone.  That was a time when you could walk up to a person like Zora Neale Hurston, Romare Bearden, and Countee Cullen and have conversations about what their inspirations were behind their work.  To live in that era would have been amazing and inspiring for someone that is a creative and innovative artist.  An artist could learn a lot from them.

I have wrapped my dreams in a silken cloth

And laid them away in a box of gold

Where long will cling the lips of the moth

I have wrapped my dreams in a silken cloth

I hide no hate

I am not even wroth

Who found the earth’s breath so keen and cold

I have wrapped my dreams in a silken cloth

And laid them away in a box of gold.

Living any amount of time in Harlem Nights would have been great but only because of the era in which it took place. There were amazing things happening at that time in the arts and since I am an artistic person, both visual and literal, I would have been in heaven at that time. To get a glimpse of that time, see the movie Harlem Nights and research poets, painters and writers of the Harlem Renaissance.  You may get some inspiration and fall IN LOVE with their art just like I did!!!

Just Started, Needed Inspiration and I Found It…..NaBloPoMo!

So I know I just started this blog TODAY but I wanted to start on this challenge that I just learned about called National Blog Posting Month. This was really exciting for me to find because I felt like it was a God-given sign for me to start this blog and get my creative MOJO back and I’m starting to feel it coming back already. As I said previously in my first post(MY FIRST POST!!!), I am new to this but I want to be true to it since I have decided I want to do it.

So from what I have read about this NaBloPoMo Challenge, it gives you a different prompt every week day to create a blog post around and you create and inspire with your wit and personality and it’s a challenge that happens every month. I love the idea of this because of my NewNew status to this blogiverse and it gives me some inspiration to create. So I’m going to get down to it…..

The first prompt for the month of November is “If you found one million dollars in the morning and had to spend it by nightfall, what would you do with the money?”

Money Pic NaBloPoMo Nov. 1

Now I know everybody has an answer to this but when it really comes down to it, I think it would really be hard to do in a matter of hours. To think that you have only HOURS to spend a cool MILL, I would have a hard time but I would try my HARDEST to do it.

So what would I spend the money on, they ask? I would give my first 10% to God because whatever financial blessing I receive I will give God his 10 percent. In future posts, you will find that my faith and spirituality is important to me and I know that whatever I get I have to give back to God because he gave those things to me.

I would then buy my mother a house of her choice and give her bank account card with $150,000 in that account for her to use as she sees fit and buy her an open-ended ticket to wherever she wants to go because I LLLLLUUUUUUUVVVVVV my mother!!! That woman is the BESTEST and she’s a lovely spirit and she deserves it!!! I hope to be the beautiful spirit that she is and be a blessing to my childrens’ lives as she is to her children and everybody that she comes in contact with. LOVE THAT WOMAN!!!

I would also give my dad $150,000 of the money to do with it what he sees fit.  My dad is the greatest man I’ve ever known and my relationship with him is very important to me because I only get 1 of him. I appreciate everything that he has done for me in all forms of support…financially, physically being there, and emotionally. I LOVE MY DADDY!!!!

I would also put down all the money for a HUGE family reunion for my family in the future. See, I have a ginormous family and I love them all and when we get together there is NEVA a dull moment. We eat, drink, sing and laugh and that’s the best part of living to me. I have been blessed with a family that is AMAZING and that cares like no other will. I appreciate them so I would show them just how much with a PARTAY!!!

(Still difficult to do this, by the way!!)

I would also give my sister $200,000 of the money to have when she graduates college so that she can do whatever she wants to do with her life. I know my sister is smart and creative and I would just want her to be able to live the life she wants to live without having to worry about money. I love that little sister of mine. She’s AMAZEBALLS!!! #GeauxTigers

I would split $100,000 between my aunts because LORD knows they have always had my back and I had to have been born to more than 1 mother because all 3 of them take care of all of their nieces and nephews like we are their own children and of course, we LOVE them soooo much for that. Those are MY ladies!!!

My grandmother would get WHATEVER she wants and that’s that!!! Sparing no expense to this LADY here. My grandmother is the ultimate love of my life and she has taken care of me and my cousins with no pauses and no hesitation. She LOVES us and we LOVE her so she gets what she wants.

Lastly, I would buy myself a condo in Atlanta and put money away for law school for myself. Law school is important to me so I would have to save money for that.

That was really hard to do like I said before but it was exciting to think about and blog about.  I am really looking forward to the rest of the prompts for the month of November and I appreciate BlogHer for creating this challenge for us newcomers and veterans when we need that extra push and inspiration to give our best to our creative outlet, OUR LOVE THANG, our blog. This is my new love thang. I’m going to give this my all because it’s already giving me new ideas of what I can do spice up my life and focus my life also. I hope you enjoyed my planet in the blogiverse.  As Swizz Beatz says, “The sky’s not the limit, it’s just the view.” I’m looking past the sky into a different universe. Hope to see you among the stars!
